Herod tried, but failed
When Herod learned that Micah prophesied the Messiah’s birth in Bethlehem, he immediately made plans to destroy Him (Matthew 2:1-16).
Yet Micah also foretold what the Messiah would be and do: “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah . . . from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel” (Micah 5:2).
Did Herod imagine he could actually frustrate the marvelous plan God had been developing from eternity?
Jesus died, but lives!
A third of a century later God would allow others to do what Herod failed to do: They would kill the Messiah. But then God would raise Him to life and crown him King.
Herod could not kill God’s King. The rulers could not keep Him in the grave.
