Doctor’s Orders

Choosing to ignore instructions

Years ago we took our children to a pediatrician whose attitude was, “If you won’t do what I say, you can find another doctor!” Though gruff at times, he could hardly be blamed for wanting his instructions to be followed.

Once Jesus asked, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46).

Opposite choices/opposite outcomes

He then told of two builders: one built on the rock; the other on sand. Which house was still standing after the storm hit?

The rock builder is anyone who hears what Jesus says and does it. The sand builder hears but doesn’t do.

So which are we?
