Embracing the new
Before-and-after pictures, whether of weight loss or house remodeling, can be quite fascinating.
Far more impressive are dramatic transformations such as that of Saul the violent persecutor who became the great apostle Paul.
Writing to former pagans, Peter tells them that God “called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). “For you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls” (2:25).
Letting go of the old
In the chapter “Counting the Cost” in Mere Christianity, C. S. Lewis capably illustrates the wonderful transformation God intends to make in each of us. The process can be painful, but the end result is Something Else!
Why hold on to our old, familiar “before” when God desires to create in us such a marvelous “after”?
