More Than Skin Deep

What we see

What do these Bible women have in common? Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Bathsheba, Vashti, Esther, and Job’s three daughters: Jemimah, Keziah, and Keren-happuch?

All are described as physically very attractive.

Our society highly values physical beauty, while deploring wrinkles, sags, and age spots.

What God sees

While the human eye may be attracted or repelled by externals, the heart is what God sees (1 Samuel 16:7).

Addressing Christian wives, Peter writes, “Your adornment must not be merely external . . . but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God” (1 Peter 3:3-4).

Inner beauty is true beauty. On that basis, any woman could become beautiful!
