The Problem of the Empty Tomb

Some thoughts gleaned from others

Jesus said He would rise from the dead the third day.

Either He did or He did not.

The guards were present when the angel rolled the stone from the tomb.

Frightened out of their wits, they reported to the chief priests, who then bribed them to claim Jesus’ disciples stole His body while they were asleep.

Troubling questions

All asleep at once? All derelict from duty? Not punished for it?

Could the disciples move the stone without waking the guards?

If asleep, how did they know what happened?

Why would the disciples steal the body, hide it, then proclaim Him risen—making themselves vulnerable to persecution?

Would they be willing to die for a lie, united in their testimony to the very end?

Does that make sense?
